Barrick Gold               [ABX:NYSE]  [ABX:TSE]

Operates in Mexico through it's subsidiary Mexicoro S.A. de C.V. As of mid-1995 no more grassroots exploration in Mexico. Although Barrick closed it's generative exploration office in Mexico it continues to evaluate advanced exploration and acquisition opportunities. Its' most advanced present endeavor in Mexico is a hotspring exploration play it has optioned from Radius Explorations Ltd. Mapping, geochem and IP, magnetics all look good on this active auriferous sinter system. Plans are to drill in with some RC holes.

Homestake Mining Co.   delisted but was HM:NYSE

Consumed by Barrick Resources in December 2001.

Through a series of acquisitions and mergers which led to today's Homestake Mining Company certain Mexican assets were acquired, then some were disposed of, then some more were acquired, then some more disposed of etc. It goes something like this: Once upon a time back in the 60's, '70's and early '80's Lacana was very active in Mexico through Contratistas Tormex. Corona Gold was born out of the merger of Lacana and some other small gold producers. Subsequently Homestake acquired Corona late in 1992. This history provided Homestake with a 30% interest in the Las Torres mining complex (Guanajuato) and a 26.8% interest in La Encantada (a polymetallic Pb-Ag CRD in Coahuila State) both of which are operated by Peņoles (Fresnillo), plus all of Tormex's old files on Mexico. The Las Torres operation consisted of 4 Au-Ag mines and a concentrator all located near Guanajuato. Peņoles re-purchased Homestake's share of Las Torres in 1996. This theoretically left Homestake without any material assets or interests in Mexico.

Homestake does however play very heads up ball for golden opportunities and El Viejo Gambusino has seen them down south at various international conferences and conventions. They might be takin' a siesta, but they definitely aren't asleep. All these old Mexican files will come into Barrick's possession once the merger is complete in December.
