Acquired 100% interest in Sorpresa III concession, El Alamo District. Claims acquired from Global Industries Inc. Drilled 280-300 ft vertical holes located on VLF anomalies on El Alamo Au claim in Baja California Norte. Completed VLF Mag survey on entire property. At this point Calais controls over 70 sq mi in the El Alamo area. Committment to spend $1 million by 1998. Testing the Ulyses ore chute area prior to rehabing and reopening Ulyses shaft in late1997. San David, Princess and Ulyses areas. Mineralization is in quartz veins hosted in granodiorite and also in shear zones. Penelope shaft opened up to 150 ft level. Purchased a 240 tpd mill, a D-8H cat, an excavator and a loader to use in Visnaga Area 5 mi E of Alamo, BC. Based on pilot plant results a much larger plant with a 200 ton per hour capacity has been purchased. It will be operational on April 4, 1997. Hole BA-1B hit 2 feet of 43.3 opt Au (yes ounces/ton) at 306-308 ft. Drilling continuing with results reported in the 0.0X, 0.x to multiple opt range over narrow and not necessarily continuous intervals. - typical of vein controlled mineralization. Two rigs doing in-fill to upgrade proven and probable reserve base in San David. Production start-up of San David Mine scheduled for June 15, 1997. Rigs placed over 375 by 175 m area to test San David Mine Area and they popped out some short intercepts of high-grade in the half to multiple opt range. They intercepted the Princessa Vein at depth, reportedly a multi opt Au past producer.

La Paloma Mines, Baja California. Located 300 mi S of Tijuana in the Calamajue Mining District. Calais received VSE approval for purchase of 100% interest in certain concessions and complete assets of La Paloma Mines and all of its subsidiaries. Includes over $2M in equipment (2 RC rigs and a core rig and much more) and 133,000 acres of mineral concessions. A probable resource of 1 M tonnes at 0.024 opt has been defined in a 100m by 30m area known as the Paramo Zone. Carrington Consultants working on this project.
