Quaterra Resources is focused on high quality projects for the exploration and development of economic mineral deposits, within theAmericas and has one active project in Mexico.

Quaterra Resources Inc.  QTA   (TSX)

Name changed 14Nov97 from Aquaterre Mineral Development Ltd.

Nieves District, Zacatecas. A 32 square kilometer land block located about 90 kilometers north-northwest of the town of Fresnillo, is owned 100% by Quaterra Resources Inc. High-grade silver was discovered on the claim block in 1560 by the Spanish. Sporadic work occurred on the Concordia and Santa Rita veins (Fig.1) until 1910, when the Mexican Revolution began. Geologic mapping, geochemical sampling and drilling has demonstrated that the Nieves project area hosts a large hydrothermal system with minimal erosion that exposes only the very top of the hydrothermal alteration envelope and high level late stage veins. High grade silver mineralization (> 1kg/tonne) has been mined from the Santa Rita and Concordia veins and intersected in a drill hole at the Majada vein Quaterra began work in the Cerro San Gregorio - San Gregorio vein area where previous drilling by Kennecott had intersected thick intervals of low grade silver mineralization. This area appears to have several features in common with the high grade silver veins in the Fresnillo district where more than 10,000 tonnes of silver have been produced along with 15 tonnes of gold and more than 500,000 tonnes each of lead and zinc. The surface expression of underlying mineralization is restricted to a stockwork of small veins and veinlets of barren calcite and quartz. Alteration is absent or restricted to narrow vein selvedges.  Silver occurs primarily as sulfides and sulfosalts in a quartz and calcite gangue.  Fluid inclusion work at Fresnillo suggests that mineralizing solutions were close to or at boiling conditions throughout the mineralizing period, with temperatures in the range of 170o - 260o C. Fluid inclusions results from one mineralized sample within the Cerro San Gregorio structure indicate boiling conditions and an estimated temperature of 278o C.  Economic silver mineralization in the Santo Nino vein at Fresnillo begins at about 200 meters below surface and extends downward another 400-500 meters. At Nieves, neither drilling nor historic mining extends below 200 meters.

Nieves Property, Zacatecas. Negotiated to acquire a 100% interest in Western Copper's option from Kennecott Exploration Company on a high-grade Ag property in the Nieves District held under 15 separate concessions totaling 33,171 Ha. Area is located 90 km N of Fresnillo. Drilling by Western Copper in 1997 on the La California vein was for a Fresnillo analogue. Kennecott retains a 51% back-in right on the deal. Quaterra plans to drill 2Q99. Quaterra Resources has reported assay results from a 6-hole, 2315 meter rotary/core drilling program completed on the Nieves silver project in Zacatecas, Mexico. Hole QTA-3 intersected a 34 meter stockwork zone grading 21 g/t silver, including 2 meters grading 74 g/t silver. The remaining five holes were either abandoned due to bad ground or deviated from their dip and did  not intersect the target.
